Field Defib Program |
|
Several years ago, Sauk Prairie Ambulance implemented this program in an effort to reduce response time to victims of cardiac arrest. This program includes outfitting members of our service with the equipment and supplies, including LifePak AEDs, necessary to allow them to respond directly to scenes in their personal vehicles. These units are strategically placed with members who have the greatest availability and/or live in areas that could benefit from increased response times (rural settings.)
Since its implementation, this program has been directly responsible for at least one “save.” In this case, the time from receipt of the initial page to the delivery of the first shock by the field defib operator was two minutes. This was made possible as a direct result of having personnel in the right place at the right time with the right equipment. This is especially important in the rural settings of our district.
In 2005, we were able to acquire an additional LifePak AED and an additional “jump kit,” bringing the total number of first response units we operate to five. By continuing to expand this program, we will continue to provide quality care to the citizens we serve in the most efficient and timely manner possible. |
